PM Shehbaz Says Foreign Elements Behind Balochistan Attacks, Vows Action Against Militancy

Prime minister says 42 people were killed and 54 militants eliminated in recent violence as political and military leadership reviews security situation in Quetta

Quetta: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that foreign elements are involved in recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan, alleging that militants are receiving financial and logistical support from outside Pakistan and are using Afghan territory as a refuge.

The prime minister made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee of the National Action Plan in Quetta, where the country’s political and military leadership reviewed the security situation in the province.

The meeting was attended by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, senior officials of law enforcement agencies, federal ministers and government advisers.

42 People Killed in Recent Balochistan Violence: PM

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Balochistan had witnessed serious security incidents over the past four days, resulting in the deaths of 42 people, including civilians and security personnel.

He added that 54 militants had been killed during operations conducted against terrorist groups.

The prime minister alleged that Pakistan’s eastern neighbour was providing financial support and weapons to militants involved in attacks in Balochistan, while claiming that some groups were operating from Afghan territory.

He also referred to the involvement of other external actors but did not provide further details.

Political and Military Leadership United Against Terrorism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s political and military leadership was united in its efforts to eliminate terrorism.

He said counterterrorism operations would continue until the threat was removed, adding that the government would use all available resources to ensure national security.

“Eradicating terrorism remains our top priority,” he said, adding that the sacrifices of security personnel and civilians would not go in vain.

Security Review Held in Quetta

The apex committee meeting was held during the prime minister’s one-day visit to Quetta.

Upon arrival, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was received by the governor, chief minister and senior civil and military officials.

The meeting focused on recent security developments in Balochistan, ongoing counterterrorism efforts and measures to improve law and order in the province.
