ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed all federal ministries to engage experts in developing policies that support the integration of modern technologies across key sectors of Pakistan’s economy, as the government seeks to strengthen investment, industrial growth and long-term economic development.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on economic reforms and investment promotion, the prime minister said technology-driven development, skilled workforce expansion and increased foreign investment were essential to sustaining economic growth and improving competitiveness.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that economic policies should remain focused on public welfare while supporting industrial expansion, export growth and higher domestic production. He said reforms across industrial, commercial and economic sectors should be designed to deliver long-term benefits for both businesses and citizens.
The prime minister highlighted the government’s focus on increasing local manufacturing and boosting exports, noting that industrial output should contribute not only to meeting domestic demand but also to expanding Pakistan’s presence in international markets.
Focus on energy and electric vehicles
During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said the government was working on a comprehensive strategy to meet future energy requirements through alternative and renewable energy sources.
He also stressed the importance of developing an effective electric vehicle policy to promote energy conservation and provide affordable transportation options for the public.
The prime minister instructed ministries to consult relevant experts while formulating policies aimed at adopting emerging technologies and improving economic efficiency across different sectors.
Emphasis on coordination and transparency
Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need for stronger coordination among ministries, saying government departments must work together to develop and implement effective policies that support national development goals.
He added that transparency in governance and high standards of performance would remain central to the government’s reform agenda.
Officials from relevant ministries briefed participants on policy proposals currently under consideration as part of broader efforts to accelerate investment and economic activity.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik, Power Minister Awais Leghari, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar, Director General of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) Major General Asad Rehman Cheema, and senior government officials.
