Islamabad witnessed a protest by Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday as participants called for a reduction in fuel prices and demanded that petrol be fixed at Rs225 per litre for the next three years.

The demonstration was held in the federal capital following an appeal by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, drawing a large number of party workers and citizens. Protesters urged the government to immediately revise petroleum prices, arguing that rising inflation has significantly increased the cost of living for the public.

Protest demand over fuel pricing

Speakers at the protest said the current economic conditions have placed heavy pressure on households, particularly due to fuel costs and inflation. They called for a reassessment of petroleum pricing and related taxes.

Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad representatives said the participation of a large crowd reflected public concern over inflation and fuel prices. They described petroleum levy charges as an additional burden on citizens and urged the government to review the taxation structure.

One of the speakers, Nasrullah Randhawa, questioned why fuel prices in Pakistan remain higher compared to some regional countries, arguing that consumers should be provided relief in line with regional trends.

The protest concluded with renewed calls for the government to reduce petroleum levy and other related taxes to provide relief to the public.
