PESHAWAR, Aug 4: The Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Peshawar Division has called for international action to protect the rights of Kashmiris, particularly women and children, while expressing solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Youm-e-Istehsal.
WCCIPD President Qurat ul Ain Mumtaz said the businesswomen of Pakistan would continue extending moral and humanitarian support to Kashmiris and urged the United Nations to facilitate implementation of its relevant resolutions on the longstanding dispute.
Youm-e-Istehsal is observed in Pakistan on August 5 to mark India’s 2019 decision to revoke the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Concern over rights of women and children
Mumtaz said restrictions on civil liberties, freedom of expression and fundamental rights in Indian-administered Kashmir remained a matter of serious concern.
She said reports of suffering among women, children and other civilians required urgent attention from the United Nations, international human rights organisations and the wider global community.
The WCCIPD president called for meaningful diplomatic and humanitarian measures to safeguard the basic rights and dignity of Kashmiris.
She also urged the United Nations to advance implementation of its relevant Security Council resolutions and allow the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their political future.
Businesswomen express solidarity with Kashmiris
Mumtaz said women entrepreneurs and business leaders in Pakistan stood in solidarity with Kashmiris and would continue supporting their peaceful struggle through moral and humanitarian platforms.
She maintained that a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute was necessary for lasting stability and economic development across South Asia.
According to the WCCIPD president, sustainable regional prosperity would remain difficult without a settlement that reflected relevant UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
