PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Cantonment Board collected and safely disposed of more than 510 tons of sacrificial animal waste and offal during a three-day Eid-ul-Adha cleanliness operation carried out across the cantonment area.
According to the Cantonment Board, the large-scale sanitation campaign was conducted under the supervision of Station Commander Brigadier Ghaffar Haider and led by Cantonment Executive Officer Chaudhry Babar Hussain. The operation aimed to maintain public cleanliness, sanitation standards and environmental safety during the Eid holidays.
Preparations began before Eid-ul-Adha, with the cantonment area divided into seven operational sectors. A dedicated supervisory mechanism was established for each sector, while sanitation teams were equipped with handcarts, shovels, brooms, rakes, lime and other operational supplies.
The Board also distributed around 1,000 biodegradable bags among residents to facilitate the safe collection and disposal of sacrificial waste.
Large-scale sanitation deployment
The operation involved approximately 250 sanitation workers, seven sector supervisors and one conservancy supervisor. Activities were carried out under the supervision of Sanitation In-Charge Muhammad Naveed, while the Cantonment Executive Officer monitored progress through field inspections.
Around 30 vehicles were deployed throughout the operation for waste collection and transportation.
Officials said all mosques, Eid prayer grounds and surrounding areas were cleaned and disinfected before Eid prayers. Waste collection began immediately after the completion of Eid congregations.
To support field staff working in high temperatures and extended shifts, arrangements were made for meals, drinking water and refreshments.
Over 510 tons of waste collected
According to operational data, approximately 260 tons of waste and animal offal were collected on the first day of Eid, followed by 200 tons on the second day and more than 50 tons on the third day.
The waste was transported to a designated disposal site, where pre-prepared trenches and heavy machinery were used to ensure environmentally responsible disposal.
The Board stated that additional measures, including area washing, lime sprinkling, fumigation and search operations, continued on the second and third days of Eid to maintain hygiene standards and prevent public health risks.
Public response
Officials said complaints and sanitation-related requests received during the operation were addressed promptly.
According to the Cantonment Board, residents, community representatives and local notables appreciated the sanitation arrangements and the performance of field staff during the Eid holidays.
The Board attributed the successful completion of the operation to coordinated planning, workforce efforts and cooperation from residents across the cantonment area.
