ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Sri Lanka have discussed emerging trends in modern warfare, aerospace technology and opportunities to strengthen defence cooperation during a visit by a Sri Lankan defence delegation to the Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS) in Islamabad.
A delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka, visited CASS on August 3, where discussions focused on the growing importance of air power, technological innovation and evolving security challenges shaping future conflicts.
During the interaction, CASS Director Air Vice Marshal Nasser ul Haque Wyne (Retd) briefed the Sri Lankan delegation on lessons from the four-day Pakistan-India conflict of May 2025, highlighting the role of multi-domain operations, air superiority and advanced technology in modern military engagements.
He noted that the effective integration of various operational domains demonstrated the changing nature of warfare and the increasing importance of technological capabilities in achieving strategic objectives.
Research Assistant Shaheer Ahmed also briefed the delegation on CASS research initiatives, key findings and future developments in the aerospace sector.
President CASS Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd) emphasized that indigenous technological development remains vital for strengthening national defence capabilities. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts through the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP), which aims to promote innovation, research and self-reliance in strategic technologies.
The CASS president said Pakistan and Sri Lanka share common security concerns and identified military training, defence research, development and knowledge exchange as potential areas for expanding bilateral cooperation.
He also appreciated Sri Lanka’s progress in education and acknowledged the resilience of the Sri Lankan people in overcoming terrorism-related challenges.
The engagement reflects continued efforts by Pakistan and Sri Lanka to enhance defence cooperation, share expertise and build stronger partnerships in the evolving security environment.
