Pakistan drop to eighth after Bangladesh Test series sweep

SYLHET: Pakistan dropped to eighth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings after losing the second Test to Bangladesh by 78 runs in Sylhet, a result that completed a 2-0 series sweep for the hosts.

Bangladesh moved up to fifth in the WTC table after the win, with two victories, one defeat and one draw from four matches. The result pushed India down to sixth place.

Pakistan have managed one win and three defeats from four Tests in the current WTC cycle, leaving them with four points and a win percentage of 8.33.

Australia remain at the top of the standings, followed by New Zealand and South Africa.

Bangladesh sealed the second Test on the final morning after taking Pakistan’s last three wickets. Chasing 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs.

Mohammad Rizwan led Pakistan’s resistance with 94 off 166 balls, while Sajid Khan added 28. However, Taijul Islam’s six-wicket haul helped Bangladesh close out the match and secure a historic series win.

Taijul finished with figures of 6/120, while Nahid Rana took two wickets. Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed one wicket each.
