RAWALPINDI, April 30: Security forces killed 13 militants during two separate operations foiling infiltration attempts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the incidents occurred on the night of April 28 and 29 in Mohmand and North Waziristan districts.

In Mohmand district, security forces detected the movement of a group attempting to cross into Pakistani territory. Troops engaged the militants in a targeted operation, resulting in the killing of eight individuals.

In a separate incident in North Waziristan, another infiltration attempt was thwarted following an intense exchange of fire, during which five militants were killed, the statement added.

The ISPR said the operations highlight ongoing security challenges along the western border and reiterated concerns regarding cross-border movement of armed groups. It emphasized the need for effective border management to prevent the use of Afghan territory for activities targeting Pakistan.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s frontiers, stating that clearance and sanitisation operations are ongoing in the affected areas to eliminate any remaining threats.

Security forces, in coordination with law enforcement agencies, will continue counter-terrorism efforts under the broader national strategy to curb militancy and ensure stability, the statement said.
