Pakistan have been eliminated from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after finishing behind New Zealand on net run rate in the Super 8 stage, ending their campaign despite a win in their final group fixture. The result confirmed that Pakistan will not advance to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in their last Super 8 match on February 28, but the margin of victory was not enough to lift their net run rate above New Zealand’s.

Pakistan face must-win T20 World Cup clash against Sri Lanka

With teams level on points, tournament standings were decided by net run rate, a standard ICC tie-breaker used to separate sides with identical records.

How Pakistan were eliminated

In the Super 8 stage, qualification for the semifinals depended on total points and net run rate. Pakistan required a significantly larger win in their final match to move ahead of New Zealand in the standings. Despite securing two points from the victory, their net run rate remained lower, confirming their exit once other group results were finalized.

The elimination brings Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign to a close after a mixed run of performances in the second round.

India face decisive March 1 clash

India now face a crucial group-stage match against West Indies on March 1, with a semifinal place still within reach. A win is required to strengthen India’s qualification chances, depending on the final points table and net run rate calculations.

The outcome of the match will determine the remaining semifinal lineup, with the knockout fixtures scheduled for March 4 and March 5, followed by the final on March 8.

The ICC is expected to confirm the semifinal matchups after the conclusion of the final Super 8 fixtures.
