KARACHI, August 3, 2026: The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has signed a contract to install a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) on Pakistani fishing vessels, marking a significant step toward strengthening maritime security, improving fishermen’s safety, and enhancing oversight of the country’s maritime zones.
The contract signing ceremony was held at PMSA Headquarters in Karachi on Friday. According to the agency, the project is expected to improve maritime domain awareness, support sustainable management of marine resources, and help authorities monitor fishing vessels operating within Pakistan’s waters and beyond.
Defence Secretary Attends Signing Ceremony
Secretary Defence Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Ali attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Representatives from federal and provincial governments, along with stakeholders from Pakistan’s maritime sector, also participated in the event.
Officials said the Vessel Monitoring System will enable authorities to track fishing vessels more effectively, contributing to safer operations for fishermen while strengthening maritime governance.
Project Aims to Enhance Maritime Security
According to PMSA, the initiative is designed to enhance the security of Pakistan’s maritime interests by adopting modern monitoring technology. The agency said the system will also assist in protecting marine resources and improving surveillance across Pakistan’s maritime zones.
The PMSA described the contract as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize maritime operations and strengthen the country’s maritime security framework.
