ISLAMABAD, October 30, 2026: The newly launched Nora Metro electric car is challenging the Suzuki Alto in Pakistan’s budget vehicle market, offering a lower purchase price and significantly cheaper running costs, although the Alto maintains a clear advantage in performance, safety and after-sales support.
Priced at Rs2.9 million, the Nora Metro costs nearly Rs95,000 less than the Suzuki Alto VXR, which is available for approximately Rs2.99 million.
While both vehicles fall within a similar price bracket, they serve different driving needs. The Nora Metro targets motorists seeking affordable electric mobility, particularly for daily urban travel, while the Alto remains a more conventional option for families requiring greater driving flexibility.
Nora Metro vs Suzuki Alto: Price comparison
| Vehicle | Price in Pakistan |
|---|---|
| Nora Metro EV | Rs2,899,999 |
| Suzuki Alto VXR | Rs2,994,861 |
| Price difference | Rs94,862 |
The Nora Metro is larger than the Alto, measuring approximately 153.5 inches in length compared with the Alto’s 133.7 inches.
It also offers 210mm ground clearance against the Alto’s 170mm, potentially providing an advantage on uneven roads.
However, the Alto has a more powerful engine and considerably higher maximum speed.
Engine, battery and performance
The Suzuki Alto VXR features a 660cc petrol engine producing approximately 38.9 horsepower, while the Nora Metro uses a 4kW electric motor generating around 5.4 horsepower.
The Metro has a claimed maximum speed of 70km/h, making it more suitable for short urban journeys than highway travel.
The Alto, meanwhile, has a reported maximum speed of 140km/h, giving it a substantial performance advantage.
| Specification | Nora Metro | Suzuki Alto VXR |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | Electric | Petrol |
| Motor/Engine | 4kW electric motor | 660cc engine |
| Power | 5.4hp | 38.9hp |
| Maximum speed | 70km/h | 140km/h |
| Ground clearance | 210mm | 170mm |
| Transmission | Single-speed | Five-speed manual |
The Nora Metro comes with a 23.1kWh battery and a manufacturer-claimed driving range of 250–300 kilometres per charge.
Charging takes approximately six to eight hours, although the actual range may vary depending on driving conditions, passenger load and electricity consumption.
Running cost: Nora Metro offers major savings
The biggest difference between the two vehicles is their estimated running cost.
Based on petrol priced at Rs378 per litre and the Alto’s estimated fuel efficiency of 18–22km per litre, the petrol-powered hatchback costs approximately Rs17–21 per kilometre to operate.
For the Nora Metro, calculations based on electricity priced at Rs60 per unit and an estimated 23 units per full charge put the charging cost at approximately Rs1,380.
Assuming a driving range of 250 kilometres, the electric vehicle costs around Rs5.5–5.6 per kilometre.
Estimated monthly running costs
| Monthly driving | Nora Metro | Suzuki Alto |
|---|---|---|
| 500km | Rs2,800 | Rs8,500–10,500 |
| 1,000km | Rs5,600 | Rs17,000–21,000 |
| 1,500km | Rs8,400 | Rs25,500–31,500 |
Under these assumptions, motorists driving 1,000 kilometres monthly could save approximately Rs11,400–15,400 by choosing the Nora Metro.
These estimates cover electricity and petrol expenses only. They exclude maintenance, insurance, battery replacement and other ownership costs.
Safety and features
Despite its lower running costs, the Nora Metro lacks two important safety features available in the Suzuki Alto VXR.
The Alto comes equipped with dual front airbags and an anti-lock braking system (ABS), while the Metro reportedly offers neither.
However, the Metro provides several convenience features, including a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, push-button start and alloy wheels.
Both vehicles offer air conditioning and keyless entry.
The Alto also benefits from Suzuki’s established dealership network, spare-parts availability and after-sales support across Pakistan.
Which car should buyers choose?
The Nora Metro offers an attractive option for motorists who primarily travel within cities, have access to reliable home charging and want to reduce daily transportation expenses.
Its lower purchase price, larger exterior dimensions and substantially cheaper estimated running costs are its main advantages.
However, the Suzuki Alto remains the more practical choice for buyers prioritizing safety equipment, higher-speed performance, nationwide servicing and convenient refuelling.
For families seeking a primary vehicle, the Alto offers important advantages. For short-distance commuting or use as a secondary household vehicle, the Nora Metro may provide considerable savings over time.
