KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Sham Sunder K. Advani, has described Pakistan as a land of promise for minority communities, saying their rights and contributions have an important place in the country’s national life.
Speaking ahead of Minorities Day on August 11, Dr Advani said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had repeatedly recognised the importance of minority communities and emphasised the protection of their rights. He added that Jinnah also acknowledged the services and loyalty of minorities to Pakistan.
Minorities’ Role in Pakistan’s National Identity
Dr Advani said the white portion of Pakistan’s green-and-white national flag represents minority communities and reflects their place in the country’s national fabric.
“The national flag is a symbol of our pride and honour, and its white colour represents minorities in Pakistan,” he said.
He further said former prime ministers and PPP leaders Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had placed significant emphasis on minority rights, welfare and equal status in society.
PPP Reaffirms Support for Minority Rights
Dr Advani said President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had continued to advocate for the rights and welfare of minority communities.
He also expressed appreciation for Faryal Talpur, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other PPP leaders for what he described as their continued support and commitment to minority communities.
Dr Advani reiterated that the PPP would continue its efforts to promote equality, religious harmony and protection of the constitutional rights of minorities across Pakistan.
