Punjab Schools Consider Early Academic Session

LAHORE, October 10, 2026: Private schools across Punjab are reportedly planning to begin the new academic session on December 1, 2026, a month earlier than usual, ahead of the expected arrival of Ramadan in February 2027.

According to media reports, many private schools intend to hold annual examinations in November instead of December to accommodate the shorter school hours expected during Ramadan.

School administrations say the reduced working hours during the holy month can make it difficult to complete the prescribed syllabus on schedule. Starting the academic session earlier would give teachers more time to cover the curriculum before Ramadan.

The proposed change could also benefit textbook publishers by allowing them to clear existing stocks before new editions arrive in the market. Sources cited in the report said new textbooks for the next academic year are expected to become available around March or April.

However, the proposed schedule appears to reflect plans by private schools rather than a confirmed province-wide government notification. Parents should contact their children’s schools to confirm the academic calendar and examination dates.

The beginning of Ramadan will depend on the official moon-sighting announcement.
