ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs22 per litre, providing significant relief to consumers during Eid holidays as fuel costs continue to ease.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the reduction applies to both petrol and high-speed diesel and takes effect immediately. The move affects millions of motorists, transport operators, businesses, and households that rely on fuel for transportation and daily economic activity.
Following the latest revision, the price of petrol has been reduced to Rs381.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now be available at Rs380.78 per litre.
The government said the decision was taken after fiscal space became available, allowing authorities to pass on the benefit to consumers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said providing relief to the public remains a key priority of the government. The Prime Minister’s Office noted that similar reductions in fuel prices had also been announced earlier.
Impact on transport and consumers
Fuel prices directly affect transportation costs, logistics, and the prices of goods and services across the country. Lower petroleum rates can help ease costs for private motorists, public transport users, goods transport operators, motorcyclists, and rickshaw drivers.
The government said it had continued efforts to provide relief despite economic challenges and rising pressures on public finances.
Government highlights fuel supply measures
The Prime Minister’s Office also stated that Pakistan maintained fuel availability during periods of volatility in global energy markets.
According to the statement, government measures helped avoid supply disruptions and ensured the continued availability of petroleum products across the country.
Officials added that subsidies and pricing measures had previously been used to reduce the impact of international oil price fluctuations on domestic consumers.
The latest reduction comes amid broader efforts by the government to manage inflationary pressures and support economic stability.
