Outlawed Joint Action Committee’s Armed Groups Attack Security Forces And Civilians In Rawalakot

Authorities in Rawalakot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, said a confrontation took place on Monday after individuals they identified as members of a proscribed Joint Action Committee allegedly opened fire near the Matial Mehra Bus Terminal. Officials said one Rangers personnel was killed and another injured during the incident.

The claims have been made by security authorities and had not been independently verified at the time of publication. There was no immediate response available from representatives of the group regarding the allegations.

Authorities Describe Exchange of Fire

According to the official account, the alleged armed groups opened fire in a populated area near the bus terminal. Authorities said police moved to the scene to restore order, after which they came under fire from automatic weapons.

Officials added that Rangers personnel were deployed to assist police in controlling the security situation.

Explosive Devices Also Alleged

Security officials further alleged that the attackers used improvised explosive devices during the confrontation in addition to firearms.

Authorities said the incident resulted in the death of one Rangers official, while another sustained injuries.

Officials said law enforcement agencies are continuing operations to restore order and investigate the incident.
