ISLAMABAD: State Minister Barrister Aqeel has said that Pakistan’s expanding trade with Iran is expected to benefit consumers, adding that prices of oil and gas could decline in the coming period.
The remarks come amid discussions on strengthening economic and trade ties between Pakistan and Iran, with officials suggesting that increased cooperation may help ease energy costs and improve supply conditions in the domestic market.
Speaking to the media, the minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had invited the Iranian president to visit Pakistan, adding that recent diplomatic engagement and mediation efforts had helped reduce tensions between Iran and the United States.
He said that any economic gains from regional trade agreements would ultimately be passed on to the public, particularly in the form of reduced fuel and energy prices. He also noted that easing sanctions on Iran could help address gas shortages in the region.
Barrister Aqeel added that the government is focusing on expanding skilled labour development programmes, urging young people to acquire technical skills to improve employment opportunities both locally and abroad.
He further said that diplomatic engagement between countries requires mutual cooperation, adding that “progress depends on both sides,” while expressing cautious optimism about future developments in regional talks
