MULTAN: Former England cricketer and renowned commentator David Lloyd recently expressed his concerns about the leadership qualities of current Test captain Shan Masood, comparing him to iconic Pakistan captains of the past. Speaking to a local sports platform, Lloyd criticized Masood’s approach, describing him as a “reactive captain” rather than a proactive one, which he said is necessary when facing aggressive teams like England, especially under Ben Stokes. “Shan Masood is a reactive captain, not a proactive captain,” Lloyd stated. “I have seen his captaincy in Yorkshire. He is not like former Pakistan captains Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq or Misbah-ul-Haq.” The 77-year-old’s criticism comes as Pakistan prepares to face a formidable England team known for their aggressive ‘Bazball’ style of play under Stokes. With England’s relentless pursuit of dominance, the former legend suggests that the captain must anticipate and counter the moves of the opposition and stay one step ahead. In his view, Shan Masood lacks the proactive spark that defined legendary Pakistan captains of yesteryear. “When you play against Bazball, you have to be proactive because Stokes would try to push them back and you should be proactive. I’m not sure if Shan Masood is that kind of person. It’s my opinion,” he said.
