The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has described the next six months as critical for achieving the eradication of polio in Pakistan and globally, following a high-level visit by the Polio Oversight Board of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI).
During the visit, the international delegation met senior officials of Pakistan’s polio eradication programme at the National Emergency Operations Centre, where they received a detailed briefing on the country’s latest progress, ongoing vaccination campaigns, and strategies aimed at eliminating the virus.
Global delegation expresses confidence in Pakistan’s efforts
According to the NEOC, the visiting delegation reaffirmed its confidence in Pakistan’s polio eradication programme and pledged continued support for the country’s efforts.
The delegation also praised the Government of Pakistan’s leadership and commitment to ending polio, emphasizing that the coming six months will be decisive for eliminating the disease in Pakistan and the remaining endemic regions worldwide.
Stronger immunization system emphasized
The Polio Oversight Board stressed the importance of strengthening routine immunization alongside polio vaccination campaigns to improve protection against vaccine-preventable diseases and reinforce the country’s public health system.
During the visit, board members also met female frontline health workers, heard about their field experiences, and acknowledged their contribution to Pakistan’s ongoing polio eradication campaign.
The delegation described frontline vaccinators as playing a vital role in achieving the goal of a polio-free Pakistan and recognized their continued commitment to protecting children from the disease.
