MUZAFFARABAD: A new office of the Benazir Income Support Programme was inaugurated in Muzaffarabad by Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, in a move aimed at improving service delivery and access for beneficiaries, particularly women.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid, who said the facility has been established at an accessible location to ensure greater convenience for eligible households. Officials said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection services in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
After the inauguration, the prime minister and the BISP chairperson reviewed the office facilities and interacted with women present at the centre. Authorities said the new office is expected to streamline services and reduce travel challenges for beneficiaries in the region.
Rubina Khalid said the programme continues to focus on supporting vulnerable segments of society, particularly women, through financial assistance and development initiatives. She also acknowledged the support of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government in providing the building for the office.
Officials highlighted the role of skill development programmes in improving livelihoods. The BISP chairperson referred to the Benazir Hunarmand Programme, launched to equip women with skills and enhance employment opportunities.
During her visit, Rubina Khalid also toured the Kashmir Development Foundation in Thotha, where she was briefed on initiatives supporting Kashmiri refugee women. She visited a skills development centre, interacted with trainees, and encouraged continued participation in vocational training.
Authorities said efforts are underway to link refugee women with skill development programmes to improve their economic independence and expand opportunities for income generation.
