Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to restoring peace in Swat and the wider Malakand Division, saying terrorism will be tackled with stronger security measures and improved law enforcement capabilities.
During a visit to Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital, the Chief Minister met police personnel and civilians injured in the recent suicide attack on Kabal Police Station. He inquired about their condition, prayed for their speedy recovery, and directed hospital authorities to provide the best possible medical treatment without negligence.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Fida Hassan Shah briefed the Chief Minister on the attack, the overall law and order situation, ongoing security arrangements, and the progress of the investigation.
‘Peace Is Our Top Priority’
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said restoring and maintaining peace in Swat and across Malakand remains the provincial government’s highest priority.
He said that although 2026 had been declared the “Year of Peace,” recent terrorist incidents were deeply concerning and underscored the need for more effective measures against militancy.
The Chief Minister also criticized the federal government’s policies, alleging they had contributed to the rise in terrorism, and claimed that interference by non-political elements in political affairs had further complicated the security situation. These remarks reflect his political position.
He warned that failure to take timely action could allow the security situation to deteriorate further and stressed that sustainable development is impossible without lasting peace.
Police to Lead Anti-Terror Operations
The Chief Minister said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police would continue to receive modern weapons, advanced technology, and professional training to strengthen their counter-terrorism capabilities.
He added that only the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police would lead anti-terror operations and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining security.
Relief Package for Victims’ Families
Later, the Chief Minister visited the residence of Dr. Maaz Khan, who was killed in the Kabal Police Station suicide attack.
He offered condolences to the bereaved family, recited Fateha, and announced a special relief package for the families of those killed and injured in the attack.
Among the announced measures, the provincial government will:
- Bear the full expenses of one of Dr. Maaz Khan’s sisters’ marriage.
- Take responsibility for the education of his other sisters.
- Extend all possible support to the affected family.
Tribute to Fallen Police Personnel
The Chief Minister also visited Swat Police Lines, where he inspected the attack site, met police personnel, and praised their courage and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
He later laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial, offered Fateha, and prayed for the departed police personnel.
