Mohmand Dam Welfare Projects Reviewed As Development Work Advances In Affected Areas

MOHMAND: Officials reviewed progress on public welfare projects being implemented under the WAPDA Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project during a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Mohmand. The projects are aimed at improving infrastructure, water supply, education, and other essential services in communities affected by the dam project.

The meeting was chaired by the Additional Deputy Commissioner and attended by WAPDA representatives, Member National Assembly Sajid Khan, Member Provincial Assembly Mehmood Sher, and officials from the Public Health Engineering Department, Primary and Secondary Education Department, and the Communication and Works Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Participants reviewed the status of ongoing development schemes in line with directives issued by the Additional Chief Secretary (Planning and Development), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials emphasized the importance of timely completion and directed relevant departments to address implementation challenges and remove bottlenecks affecting progress.

Rs4.5 Billion Allocated For Community Development

According to WAPDA, a total of Rs4.5 billion has been allocated for the socio-economic development of areas affected by the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project. The development package is being implemented in two phases.

Work under Phase-I, valued at approximately Rs1.9 billion, is currently underway and focuses on infrastructure development, water supply schemes, education facilities, and energy-related projects.

Key Infrastructure And Water Supply Projects

Among the major schemes under implementation are the Yousaf Baba to Abazai Road project, valued at Rs524 million, and the Mullagori Water Supply Scheme, estimated at Rs74 million. Both projects are intended to improve transportation links and access to clean drinking water for local communities.

Officials also informed the meeting that construction work on three new schools in Daryab Kot, Shaheed Banda, and Malik Taj Mir areas of Mohmand district is expected to begin soon. The schools project has an estimated cost of Rs87 million.

WAPDA Highlights Role Of Provincial Departments

During the meeting, WAPDA officials reiterated that provincial government departments are responsible for executing the development schemes, while WAPDA is providing financial support for the projects.

Officials stressed the need for executing agencies to maintain quality standards, resolve operational issues promptly, and ensure timely completion so that residents of project-affected areas can benefit from the development initiatives.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to improving coordination among departments and accelerating work on ongoing projects to ensure that development benefits reach local communities as early as possible.
