France star Kylian Mbappé has set multiple historic records at the FIFA World Cup after another standout performance in the knockout stage, further strengthening his status among the tournament’s greatest goalscorers.
In France’s 3–0 win over Sweden in the pre-quarterfinal, Mbappé scored twice, taking his overall World Cup goal tally to 18. The result moved him past Germany’s Miroslav Klose, making him the second-highest scorer in World Cup history.
The FIFA World Cup Mbappé records now place him as the leading European scorer in the competition’s history, while he remains just one goal behind Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who leads the all-time list with 19 goals.
Mbappé’s combined goals and assists in World Cup matches have also reached 22, surpassing Brazil legend Pelé, while Messi leads that category with 27 goal contributions.
He also set a new benchmark in knockout-stage performances, scoring his 10th goal in elimination matches to overtake Brazil’s Ronaldo Nazário as the highest scorer in World Cup knockout rounds.
So far in the current tournament, Mbappé has recorded six goals and two assists, keeping him at the top of the Golden Boot race. His partnership with teammate Ousmane Dembélé has also been a key factor in France’s strong run.
