LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced indiscriminate action against those involved in the harassment or blackmailing of women, saying no one is above the law regardless of political affiliation, position or influence.

In a statement, the chief minister said state institutions would perform their duties independently and impartially in accordance with the Constitution. She said strict action would be taken against anyone who threatens to make a woman’s private material public or uses such threats to pressure her.

Maryam Nawaz said the use of political influence in such cases would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

She added that the Punjab government would ensure action against those who harass or blackmail women without discrimination.
