Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have surged sharply in local markets, with rates reaching as high as Rs470 per kilogram despite the government’s official fixed price of Rs310 per kilogram in Punjab, triggering concern among residents already burdened by inflation.
According to details, the government-approved rate for LPG remains Rs310/kg, but in open markets across Attock, dealers are reportedly selling the fuel at significantly higher prices without effective regulatory enforcement.
Limited supply worsens public hardship
Residents also reported that LPG supply has become increasingly limited, with availability restricted to only a few hours daily. This shortage, combined with rising prices, has intensified difficulties for households relying on LPG for cooking.
Families struggle amid rising costs
Local citizens said the situation has made it difficult for low- and middle-income families to manage basic kitchen needs. Some residents claimed they are forced to reduce or skip meals due to the rising cost and inconsistent supply of cooking gas.
Calls for strict action
Citizens have urged the district administration to take immediate action against dealers overcharging consumers and to ensure implementation of the official pricing structure. They also called for stronger monitoring to prevent profiteering in the local LPG market.
Authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the reported price hike.
