Lahore’s public schools are set to receive mobile library services under a new “Libraries on Wheels” project aimed at improving students’ access to books and digital learning resources.

The District Education Authority Lahore plans to complete the project at an estimated cost of Rs198 million. Under the initiative, 85 electric vehicles will be purchased and converted into mobile libraries for government schools across the city.

Each mobile library will be equipped with 20 modern tablets and a large LED screen to support digital learning. Officials said each vehicle will visit one school per day according to a fixed schedule and provide educational services to students on campus.

The electric vehicles will be charged daily at designated charging station schools. The project is designed to give students access to library facilities, reading material and digital education tools, particularly in schools where permanent library resources may be limited.

The District Education Authority said the initiative would help promote reading habits and book culture among students, while also supporting improvements in the overall quality of education.

Chief Executive Officer Tariq Mahmood said the project would combine traditional reading with modern technology by providing students access to both books and digital educational content.

He described the mobile library programme as a unique initiative focused on promoting reading and expanding access to modern learning resources in public schools.
