ABBOTTABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority has launched a river safety awareness campaign in Abbottabad after recent drowning incidents in Swat, Naran and other tourist areas.

The campaign aims to protect tourists during the monsoon season, when fast-flowing rivers and sudden flash floods can pose serious risks.

An awareness activity was held at Harno River under the supervision of Cultural and Tourism Officer Saima Imran. Tourism Police and Rescue 1122 officials warned visitors against entering rivers for photography, selfies or social media videos.

During the drive, officials guided children, women and other tourists out of the river and moved them to safer locations. Safety brochures and awareness material were also distributed.

Saima Imran said the campaign was launched on the directives of Adviser to the Chief Minister on Tourism Malik Adeel, Secretary Tourism Saadat Hassan and the Director General of Tourism KP.

She urged tourists to follow safety instructions, especially in areas where Tourism Police or Rescue 1122 personnel are not present.
