HELSINKI: Finnish social media influencer Olivia Oras has died at the age of 27 after reportedly suffering complications during a cosmetic procedure at a private beauty clinic in Helsinki, according to international media reports.

The incident has raised questions about the use of anesthesia and medical supervision during cosmetic procedures. Reports said Oras did not regain consciousness after being administered anesthesia and her condition subsequently deteriorated. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors were unable to save her.

Oras’s parents, Reijo Oras and Johanna Oras, have confirmed her death. According to the family, their daughter was hospitalized after receiving anesthesia during the procedure and later died in hospital.

Her parents have reportedly raised concerns that a serious error may have occurred at the clinic during the cosmetic procedure. However, no negligence or wrongdoing has been established, and the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

Helsinki police reportedly received a formal request to investigate the incident three days after Oras’s death. Authorities have launched an investigation into possible criminal conduct and negligence, while stressing that the inquiry remains at an early stage.

From Young Social Media Star to Documentary Subject

Oras began sharing content on Instagram at the age of 14 and quickly gained a substantial following. Her growing popularity led to the release of a documentary titled The Perfect Selfie in 2016, which explored her life and relationship with social media.

The documentary brought her wider recognition, making her one of Finland’s better-known young social media personalities at the time.

Oras later closed her social media account and moved to Amsterdam in 2017. After returning to Finland, she reportedly went through a difficult period involving severe psychological distress, sleeping-pill use and alcohol dependence.

She subsequently sought treatment and worked to rebuild her life through professional care.

Her sudden death at 27 has drawn renewed attention to both the risks that can accompany cosmetic procedures and the lesser-known personal struggles behind the public image of a young social media personality.
