LAHORE: More than 432,000 students have registered for the second phase of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s e-Bike Scheme within the first two days of the registration drive, reflecting strong demand for the provincial government’s electric motorcycle initiative.
The government opened the scheme’s online registration portal following similar digital initiatives for the Honhaar Scholarship and laptop distribution programmes, providing students with an opportunity to obtain electric motorcycles through subsidized financing.
Of the students who registered, around 265,000 are still completing their applications, while more than 108,000 applications have been formally submitted so far.
Registration for Phase II will remain open until October 4, 2026, through the scheme’s official online portal.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have a Punjab domicile or identity card and be enrolled as regular students at a public or private degree college or university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Students must be at least 18 years old and hold either a learner’s driving permit or a valid motorcycle driving licence. The scheme also allows only one student per family to participate.
Under the programme approved on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, successful applicants will not be required to make a down payment. The Punjab government will cover the interest and insurance costs associated with the e-bike financing.
Selected students will pay Rs3,028 per month for their electric motorcycles.
In addition to the e-bike, each successful applicant will receive a helmet and safety rod free of cost. Recipients will also undergo two days of training focused on the safe operation of the vehicles.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the relevant authorities to ensure that e-bikes are delivered to successful applicants within six weeks after completion of the application process.
