The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is introducing five modern mobile drug screening laboratory vans to enable the on-site testing of medicines in markets across the province.
The initiative will make it possible to conduct immediate checks of medicine quality in the field, marking a first in the province’s history.
According to Lieutenant General (retd) Nigar Johar, the mobile laboratory vans will be inaugurated next Tuesday at the Governor House.
The vehicles are equipped with advanced Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Raman technologies, which can be used to analyse the chemical composition and potency of medicines.
Johar said the mobile laboratories would be deployed across different divisions of the province, allowing drug inspectors to examine medicines directly in markets.
Samples of suspicious medicines will be sent to the Drug Testing Laboratory in Peshawar for more detailed analysis.
She emphasised that ensuring access to safe and quality medicines is essential for protecting public health. She added that the new mobile laboratories would strengthen the province’s drug regulatory system and improve the monitoring of medicine quality.
