KP Minister Orders Suspension of Rehabilitation

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Adviser for Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Development Malik Liaqat Ali Khan has ordered the suspension of a rehabilitation centre official following a surprise inspection of a drug rehabilitation facility in Mardan. The action came after the adviser identified alleged administrative shortcomings, inadequate facilities and concerns over patient care.

The visit was conducted to assess treatment, rehabilitation, psychological counselling and vocational training services provided to individuals recovering from drug addiction. Secretary of the Social Welfare Department Sharif Hussain accompanied the adviser during the inspection.

Inspection Reveals Administrative Shortcomings

During the visit, the delegation inspected medical facilities, residential arrangements, food quality and the overall rehabilitation process. Officials also interacted with patients to review the services being provided at the centre.

According to the provincial government, the adviser expressed concern over the centre’s performance, citing alleged administrative weaknesses, poor service delivery, inadequate basic facilities, substandard food quality and negligence in patient care.

Official Suspended, Inquiry Ordered

Taking immediate notice of the reported deficiencies, Malik Liaqat Ali Khan ordered the suspension of the concerned RCDA official.

He also directed the Secretary of the Social Welfare Department to conduct a comprehensive inquiry and initiate legal and departmental action against anyone found responsible for negligence or misconduct.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Patient Welfare

Speaking during the visit, the adviser said rehabilitation centres play an important role in helping individuals recovering from drug addiction reintegrate into society.

He stated that the provincial government, under the vision of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is committed to strengthening transparency, accountability and service delivery across social welfare institutions. He added that patient rights and the proper use of public resources would remain a priority.

Secretary Sharif Hussain instructed officials to implement immediate corrective measures, improve facilities and ensure the welfare of patients.

The provincial government said rehabilitation centres across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will continue to be monitored to improve standards of care and institutional performance.
