PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A series of activities were held in Kohistan during World Immunization Week to raise awareness about child vaccination and the importance of protecting children from preventable diseases.
The campaign brought together health officials, local administration, educators, and community leaders to encourage routine immunization and address misconceptions about vaccines, particularly in hard-to-reach areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sensitisation sessions were organised in schools and community centres, where health workers engaged parents, teachers and residents on the benefits of timely vaccination and completing immunisation schedules.
Officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, District Health Officer, EPI Coordinator and religious scholars, participated in outreach efforts aimed at expanding awareness and improving vaccination coverage.
Farah Shahid, Executive Director of Khagarah Development Organization (KDO), said the initiative was part of the “Immunize Now – Reach the Unreached” project, implemented in collaboration with the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Awareness walks were also conducted across different localities, with participants carrying banners and placards highlighting the importance of vaccines and collective responsibility in safeguarding children’s health.
In addition, public messages were shared through social media and mobile announcements in residential and commercial areas, urging parents to ensure timely immunisation for their children.
Officials said the activities reflect ongoing efforts to improve immunization coverage and strengthen public health awareness in Kohistan, with a focus on reaching underserved communities.
