KOHAT, June 28, 2026: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan said on Sunday that the provincial government had approved a multi-billion-rupee development package for Kohat in the 2026-27 budget.

Speaking to delegations during a Public Day at his residence, the minister said the package was part of the provincial government’s plan to accelerate development and improve public service delivery in the district.

Shafi Jan said the government had prepared a comprehensive development agenda for Kohat in coordination with Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam, MPA Daud Shah Afridi and MNA Shehryar Khan Afridi.

He said the approved schemes covered healthcare, education, roads, water supply, dams, public parks and other infrastructure projects.

According to the minister, major health-sector projects include a 1,000-bed state-of-the-art general hospital, full funding for the completion of the under-construction Liaqat Memorial Women and Children Hospital, and more than Rs1 billion for the upgradation of the Divisional Headquarters Hospital, KDA.

He said the government had also approved the construction of a flyover at Dhoda Chowk, widening of the road from Shuhada Chowk to PAF Chowk, and several road construction and rehabilitation schemes worth billions of rupees.

Shafi Jan said the road-widening project was being coordinated with cantonment authorities to ensure smooth implementation.

The minister said the education sector would also receive attention under the package, including the establishment of new schools and colleges and the upgradation of existing educational institutions.

He added that new dams, public parks at selected dam sites and multiple drinking water supply schemes had also been included to improve access to clean water and recreational facilities in the district.

Shafi Jan said the development work carried out in Kohat during the past two and a half years had surpassed the pace of projects implemented in the previous decade.

He said the provincial government remained committed to addressing public concerns, strengthening infrastructure and improving essential services.

The minister said efforts would continue under the leadership of MNA Shehryar Khan Afridi to make Kohat one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s leading districts in infrastructure development and public service delivery.
