WASHINGTON: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader Fareed was presented with a Humanity Award during an interfaith harmony ceremony in Washington, recognising his public service and engagement across religious and social communities.

The event was organised by representatives of Muslims of America and Sikhs of America and brought together community leaders and advocates of interfaith cooperation.

Addressing the gathering, Muslims of America founder and chairman Dr Sajid Tarar said leadership should be measured not only by public office but by the positive impact an individual leaves on people’s lives.

He said public service becomes meaningful when it is guided by compassion, humility and a sincere commitment to improving the lives of others.

Sikhs of America Chairman Dr Jasdeep Singh Jassi said individuals who rise above religious, political and social differences to serve humanity deserved public recognition.

He added that societies become stronger when they acknowledge people who dedicate their careers to serving others.

Ayesha Khan, a member of a state central committee in Baltimore, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of interfaith solidarity and community cooperation.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, representatives of Muslims of America and Sikhs of America conferred the Humanity Award on Khader.

Khader is currently serving as Karnataka’s health and family welfare minister, according to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and the state’s National Health Mission. He previously held the same portfolio between 2013 and 2016 and later served as speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

The ceremony highlighted efforts by South Asian diaspora organisations in the United States to promote interfaith dialogue and recognise public figures associated with community service.
