Karachi has reported another mpox case after a 40-year-old man from Gulistan-e-Johar tested positive for the virus, health sources said.
The latest Karachi mpox case is notable because the patient reportedly had no recent foreign travel history. He has been shifted to the quarantine ward of the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Centre in NIPA for medical care and monitoring.
According to hospital sources, the patient was diagnosed after showing symptoms consistent with mpox. Health officials are expected to trace close contacts to assess whether anyone else may have been exposed.
With the new case, the total number of mpox infections reported in Karachi has risen to nine.
Mpox is a viral illness that can spread through close physical contact with an infected person, contaminated materials, or exposure to infected lesions. Symptoms may include fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes and a skin rash.
Health authorities usually advise suspected patients to seek medical care, avoid close contact with others and follow isolation guidance until cleared by doctors.
Officials have not yet issued further details on the patient’s condition or any possible local transmission link.
