Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has criticized Babar Azam over his leadership and decision-making, saying expectations from the current Pakistan setup should remain limited.
Akhtar’s comments came as Pakistan struggled against England in the third Test at Edgbaston. After England posted 453 in their first innings, Pakistan were dismissed for 133. At the end of the second day, Pakistan were 52 for two and still trailed by 268 runs.
Shoaib Akhtar Questions Pakistan’s Decision-Making
Speaking on PTV Sports, Akhtar said Babar’s personality is reflected in his approach to the game and decision-making.
The former fast bowler suggested that it would be difficult to expect major results from the team under the current circumstances.
“You cannot expect too much from this team,” Akhtar said, according to the report.
He added that the situation represented a failure of the system and said the results were a reflection of the investment made in the team.
Coaching Changes Add to Pakistan’s Turmoil
The comments came after the Pakistan Cricket Board removed Test coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from their positions. White-ball coaches Mike Hesson and Ashley Nofke were subsequently assigned the roles.
Babar later confirmed that he had not been consulted before the coaching changes were announced.
Pakistan’s difficult position in the Birmingham Test has added further pressure to the team’s leadership and management following its struggles in the series against England.
