Lower Dir, August 1: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa North Secretary General Muhammad Halim Bacha has warned that the party will launch nationwide protests if the government does not control inflation and halt increases in petroleum prices before August 7.

Speaking at a monthly training gathering organised by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Talaash Zone in Lower Dir, Bacha criticised the country’s ruling leadership, alleging that its economic policies had placed an unbearable burden on the public.

He said Pakistan is endowed with abundant natural resources, including valuable mineral reserves, but claimed that the country’s leadership had failed to utilise these resources for the benefit of the people. He alleged that rising inflation had made life increasingly difficult for low-income families.

Bacha said Jamaat-e-Islami’s planned nationwide protest campaign, announced by the party’s central Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, would go ahead if the government failed to address inflation and petroleum price increases by the stated deadline.

During his address, he also urged Jamaat-e-Islami members and workers to strengthen organisational discipline, serve as role models in society, and continue working for the promotion of Islamic values.

The gathering was also addressed by Jamaat-e-Islami Talaash Zone Ameer Maulana Qari Javed Iqbal, Qaim Hanifullah, Local Ameer Maulana Abdul Karim, and President Ittehad-e-Ulama Mufti Iftikhar-ur-Rehman.
