Japanese Woman Arrested After Allegedly Sewing Housemate’s Lips Shut

Police in Japan have arrested a woman accused of sewing her housemate’s lips shut with a needle and thread following an alleged dispute. The victim managed to escape the residence and sought help at a nearby store, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The incident took place in Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture, where authorities have launched an investigation into the alleged assault and the circumstances surrounding the case.

Victim Escaped and Asked for Help

According to police, the 42-year-old woman fled the shared residence and entered a nearby shop, where she wrote the words “Please help me” on a piece of paper to alert people around her.

The store staff contacted police, who responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Suspect Taken Into Custody

Following preliminary inquiries, Ibaraki Prefectural Police arrested 49-year-old Masaye Sakurai on suspicion of assault.

Police said the suspect and the victim were living in the same house at the time of the incident. Investigators are also examining whether any other person was present at the residence.

Investigation Continues

According to Japan’s public broadcaster NHK, the victim told investigators that the incident occurred after an argument during which the suspect allegedly became enraged and sewed her lips together with a needle and thread.

Police are continuing to question the suspect and investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. Authorities have not released further details as the inquiry remains ongoing.
