The high-end facility is being developed on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to strengthen the airport’s capacity to receive visiting heads of state, foreign dignitaries and international delegations.
The project forms part of the Islamabad International Airport Master Development Plan and is aimed at upgrading reception, hospitality and operational facilities for high-level diplomatic visits.

During the ceremony, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the formal commencement of the project. He also planted trees as part of the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
According to project details, the new State Lounge will provide a dedicated reception and hospitality facility for international dignitaries arriving in the federal capital, particularly during major diplomatic events.
The development comes amid Pakistan’s growing engagement in regional and international diplomatic activities, which has increased the need for modern facilities capable of accommodating high-level foreign delegations.
Officials described the project as an important addition to the country’s aviation infrastructure, particularly in view of the upcoming SCO summit, which is expected to bring senior leaders and delegations from member states to Islamabad.
The facility is intended to improve arrangements for official receptions while supporting the airport’s broader infrastructure modernisation programme.
The government has identified improvements in airport infrastructure and operational capabilities as part of its efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to host major international engagements.
The new State Lounge is expected to contribute to these preparations by providing dedicated facilities for visiting international leaders and official delegations.
