TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has thanked Pakistan for its diplomatic efforts to help end the recent conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, while reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to diplomacy and regional cooperation.

The remarks come amid reports of progress in negotiations between Iran and the United States, with officials indicating that discussions on a potential agreement have advanced. The developments are being closely watched across the Middle East and beyond due to their implications for regional stability, global energy markets and international diplomacy.

In a post on X, Pezeshkian said he had spoken with the prime ministers of Pakistan and Malaysia, thanking Pakistan for its “initiative and effective efforts” and Malaysia for its humanitarian stance during the conflict.

The Iranian president said he had emphasised Iran’s commitment to diplomacy during the conversations and reiterated Tehran’s policy of expanding cooperation with neighbouring and Muslim-majority countries across multiple sectors.

Iranian lawmaker cites progress in talks

Fada Hossein Maleki, a member of Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said significant progress had been made during the latest round of discussions between Iran and the United States.

According to Maleki, most of Iran’s proposals were accepted during the negotiations. However, he also expressed concerns regarding the implementation of any future agreement, referring to past disagreements between the two countries.

Reports in international media have suggested that a draft agreement between Tehran and Washington has been finalised, although it has not yet received final approval.

Reports outline proposed agreement

According to a report published by a British newspaper, US President Donald Trump has shared a draft of the proposed agreement with allied countries, including Israel.

The report said the proposed framework includes measures related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and easing certain US restrictions on Iran.

It also stated that Iran could gain access to approximately $12 billion in frozen assets held abroad under the proposed arrangement.

The report added that the Strait of Hormuz could return to normal pre-conflict operating levels within 30 days of the agreement taking effect. It further said that China supports formal endorsement of any final agreement through the United Nations.

Neither the United States nor Iran has officially announced a final agreement, and discussions remain ongoing.
