Iqra University hosts ECON FLIMORA 11.0 to showcase student-led economic storytelling through visual projects

Karachi — Iqra University Business School (IUBS) has organised the 11th edition of its student initiative ECON FLIMORA, bringing together more than 600 students in a visual learning showcase aimed at presenting economic concepts through short films and creative storytelling.

The event, titled “ECON FLIMORA 11.0 – Reimagining Economics Through Visualization,” was held at the Mini Auditorium of the Education Development Centre (EDC) on the university’s main campus in Karachi. It featured student-produced video presentations focused on business and economics themes, with participation from 14 academic sections.

Organisers said the initiative is designed to strengthen applied learning by encouraging students to translate theoretical economic concepts into visual narratives, combining research, teamwork and communication skills. The programme also aims to make complex economic ideas more accessible through creative formats.

Sponsored by Faysal Funds, the event included the screening of 24 student-produced short videos before faculty members, students and invited guests.

Student participation and academic engagement

According to the university, more than 600 students participated in group projects, while over 100 attendees, including faculty and guests, attended the screenings.

The event was conceptualised and led by Head of Department Dr Ammar Ahmed Siddiqui, with co-supervision by lecturer Ms Nargis Noman. A panel of judges included media and communication professionals and academics who evaluated the student presentations.

Among the judges was senior media professional Noman Shabbir, who said the initiative helped transform traditional economics learning into a more visual and engaging experience by encouraging students to present real-world issues through short films.

Winners announced

Following evaluation, the Aggregate Demand Group secured first position and received a cash prize of Rs30,000. The Market Power Group placed second with Rs20,000, while the Exports Group came third, receiving Rs10,000 for their presentations.

University faculty said the ECON FLIMORA series continues to promote experiential learning by encouraging students to apply economic theories in practical and creative formats, strengthening analytical and communication skills.
