RAWALPINDI: Residents of Mouza J-7 have alleged that illegal mining, mountain excavation, and occupation of government and Shamlat land by private groups are putting dozens of nearby homes at risk and causing environmental damage in the area.
According to local residents, heavy machinery is being used for ongoing excavation and construction activities linked to a housing society despite restrictions on illegal occupation and sale of Shamlat land. Residents claim that more than 30 houses are facing danger due to continuous mountain cutting and stone extraction operations.
The affected residents said illegal construction and excavation work has continued day and night in alleged violation of government regulations and court directives.
Local residents further alleged that influential individuals, including members of what they described as “Group No. 4,” are involved in illegal occupation and mining activities in the Mouza J-7 area.
Residents submit complaints to authorities
According to residents, complaints and applications seeking action against the alleged illegal activities have been submitted to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Chief Minister Punjab, the Commissioner Rawalpindi, and other concerned departments.
They claimed that approximately 114 kanal and 7 marla of land has been damaged due to mountain cutting, stone mining, and excavation work.
Residents also alleged that officials from local departments, including TMO and DFO offices, were supporting or ignoring the activities. No official response from the departments concerned was immediately available.
Concerns raised over safety and environmental impact
Residents expressed concern that continued excavation could trigger landslides or structural damage to nearby houses, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
They appealed to the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Chief Secretary Punjab, and other authorities to stop the alleged illegal occupation and mining operations and ensure the protection of local residents and public land.
