ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training is developing an in-house cohort of master trainers to strengthen teaching standards and continuous professional development across non-formal education schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The initiative forms part of the Roadmap for Non-Formal Education Sector Reforms in ICT, under which selected master trainers will lead professional development activities at the cluster level.

Officials said building training capacity within the system is aimed at making professional development more sustainable while reducing reliance on external support over time.

To further strengthen the skills of the selected trainers, a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme was organised in Islamabad with the support of UNESCO.

Speaking on the occasion, Federal Secretary Nadeem Mahbub congratulated the participants and urged them to carry out their responsibilities with dignity and professionalism.

He described the master trainers as a key part of the non-formal education system, highlighting their role in improving teaching quality and supporting educators working at the grassroots level.

As part of the initiative, master trainers were also provided with tablets containing digitised training and educational resources, giving them access to modern tools for professional learning and classroom support.

The programme is intended to help trainers deliver structured professional development activities across clusters and strengthen the capacity of teachers serving in non-formal schools.

The ministry said its wider reform effort is focused on moving beyond access alone and improving the quality of non-formal education so that children, regardless of their location or circumstances, have greater opportunities to learn and progress.

The initiative also reflects efforts to build a more sustainable professional development framework within the non-formal education sector by creating trained personnel who can continue supporting teachers at the local level.
