ISLAMABAD, May 29: The federal government has announced a reduction of Rs22 per litre in the prices of petrol and diesel, providing relief to consumers during Eid holidays.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs22 per litre to Rs381.78, while diesel will now be sold at Rs380.78 per litre following a similar reduction.
The government said the move reflects its commitment to providing relief to the public when fiscal conditions allow. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said easing the financial burden on citizens remains a key priority for the administration.
The statement noted that the government had announced fuel price reductions earlier as well and continues to pursue measures aimed at supporting consumers despite economic challenges.
Relief for consumers
Officials said the reduction would benefit private motorists, public transport operators, goods transport services, motorcyclists and rickshaw users.
The government also highlighted efforts to maintain fuel supplies during periods of international market volatility, noting that Pakistan avoided shortages and long fuel queues seen in some countries.
According to the statement, authorities previously provided significant subsidies to shield consumers from sharp increases in global oil prices and help stabilize domestic fuel costs.
