ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for several parts of Pakistan, warning of possible flooding in rivers, streams and low-lying areas amid forecast rainfall through September 17, 2026.
According to the NDMA, increased rainfall in upper parts of the country could raise water levels and flows in rivers and streams, creating a risk of flash floods in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad and Balochistan.
Areas at Risk
In Gilgit-Baltistan, the alert covers Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Ishkoman, Gupis-Yasin, Nagar, Hunza, Shimshal, Skardu and Shigar, where sudden flooding may occur following heavy rainfall.
Several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also at risk, including Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand, Kurram, Kohistan, Mohmand and Orakzai.
In Balochistan, the NDMA has identified Zhob, Sherani and Musakhel as areas where flooding may develop.
The alert also covers Islamabad and several urban areas of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Sheikhupura.
NDMA Directs Authorities to Prepare
The NDMA has alerted relevant departments and directed them to take precautionary measures and prepare for possible flooding.
The authority said its National Emergency Operations Centre is assessing potential hazards in advance and coordinating timely warnings for the public and relevant institutions.
The NDMA has advised residents to avoid crossing streams, flooded roads, bridges and low-lying passages during periods of heavy rainfall.
Citizens have also been advised to rely on verified weather and emergency information and use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app for updates on potential hazards and safety measures.
In the event of a flood emergency, the NDMA has advised people to seek assistance through the 911 helpline.
