Federal Minister Dr Musadik Malik has formally invited the Belgium Hockey Federation to send its under-21 team to Pakistan, highlighting efforts to strengthen international hockey ties and provide young players with competitive exposure.
Dr Malik visited the stadium on the invitation of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), where he watched the match between Pakistan and Belgium. On arrival, he was welcomed by PHF governing board member Chaudhry Pervez Sandhela, who briefed him on the national team, recent European tours, and upcoming programs.

Meetings with team management and players
During his visit, Dr Musadik Malik met the national team’s head coach Manzoor-ul-Hassan, assistant coach Muhammad Wasim, team manager Khawaja Muhammad Junaid, and all players. He encouraged the team, reminding them of Pakistan hockey’s golden era and emphasizing the current generation’s responsibility to revive the nation’s proud tradition in the sport.
Players described the meeting as highly motivating, saying that government support boosts their morale and inspires them to perform with greater dedication.
Strengthening Pakistan-Belgium hockey relations
The minister also met Serge Pille, CEO of the Belgium Hockey Federation. The discussion focused on enhancing Pakistan-Belgium hockey cooperation, youth player exchanges, and bilateral development initiatives. Dr Musadik Malik formally invited Belgium’s teams, especially the U-21 squad, to tour Pakistan and play matches. Serge Pille welcomed the invitation and expressed preliminary agreement to send the team, reaffirming commitment to expand hockey collaboration between the two countries.

Positive momentum in Pakistan hockey
Hockey circles noted that since PHF President Mohiuddin Wani took charge, a renewed sense of optimism and structured planning has emerged in national hockey. Continuous international matches, improved player preparation, and efforts to re-establish Pakistan hockey on the global stage have been widely appreciated.
Experts suggest that if this momentum continues, Pakistan hockey can steadily regain its lost international recognition and strengthen its position worldwide. Notably, the national team is preparing to participate in a major global event after nearly eight years. Matches against strong European teams are providing valuable experience and laying the foundation for improved performance in future international tournaments.
