FIFA says it has removed more than 388,000 harmful or inappropriate social media posts and comments since the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026 as part of its wider effort to curb online abuse during the tournament.

According to the global football body, the monitoring campaign has reviewed millions of posts since June 11, with content flagged for hate speech, abuse and other harmful behavior affecting players, teams and fans.

FIFA said around 3.8 million social media posts linked to the tournament have been analyzed since the opening matches. During broader monitoring, more than 250 million posts and comments were reviewed, with over 30 million pieces of content identified as harmful or hate-based.

The figures were shared as FIFA, TikTok and officials from the US city of Atlanta held a special event to mark the International Day for Countering Hate Speech.

The event brought together players, policymakers, technology experts and community leaders to discuss ways to reduce online abuse and promote respect across football communities.

Participants emphasized the role of football in encouraging unity, inclusion and positive social values. They also called for continued practical steps to address hate speech and abusive online behavior during major sporting events.

FIFA said the latest action reflects its commitment to protecting players and football communities from harmful digital content as global attention remains focused on the World Cup.
