The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three senior officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) over allegations of facilitating the illegal issuance of Pakistani Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to Afghan nationals. The officials were taken into custody in Multan and transferred to the FIA office for further investigation.
According to the FIA, the case involves allegations that Afghan nationals were unlawfully added to the family records of Pakistani citizens, enabling them to obtain CNICs in violation of national identity and immigration laws.
Three Senior Officials Taken Into Custody
The arrested officials have been identified as Additional Director Shoaib Ahmed, Deputy Director Rameez Raza and Kot Addu NADRA Service Centre Superintendent Naveed Aslam.
The FIA said the arrests were made during an operation conducted by the Multan Circle under the supervision of Assistant Director Yasir Khattak.
Allegations of Illegal CNIC Processing
Investigators allege that the officials facilitated the approval and processing of identity documents for Afghan nationals through unlawful means.
The agency claims the accused played a role in adding foreign nationals to the family trees of Pakistani citizens, allowing them to obtain Pakistani CNICs.
Case Registered Under Multiple Laws
The FIA has registered a case against the three officials under the Foreigners Act, the NADRA Ordinance, relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), and anti-corruption laws.
Officials said further investigations are underway to determine the full scope of the alleged network and identify any additional individuals involved.
