Pakistan women’s cricket captain Fatima Sana has been selected by Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred, becoming the first Pakistani woman cricketer to earn a place in the England-based league.

The all-rounder was signed through the wildcard process and replaced Australia’s Lucy Hamilton in the Birmingham Phoenix squad. Hamilton was earlier listed among Birmingham Phoenix’s women’s direct signings for the 2026 season.

According to reports, Fatima will receive £15,000 for her participation in the tournament. Her availability may depend on Pakistan’s scheduled tour of Sri Lanka from July 23 to August 4.

Fatima’s selection is being seen as a major development for Pakistan women’s cricket, as it gives one of the country’s leading players an opportunity to compete in a high-profile international franchise competition.

The Pakistan captain has also been in strong form at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. In a recent match against South Africa, she scored an unbeaten 55 off 38 balls after Pakistan had slipped to 50 for eight.

Her innings included six fours and two sixes and marked her first half-century in a Women’s T20 World Cup match.

Fatima also took three wickets for 16 runs in the same match, becoming the first Pakistan captain to score a half-century and take three wickets in a women’s T20 international.

Although Pakistan lost the match by two wickets, Fatima’s all-round performance was widely noted as one of the key individual highlights of the contest.

Her inclusion in The Hundred adds another milestone to her career and may open the door for more Pakistani women cricketers to receive opportunities in overseas leagues.
