ISLAMABAD, September 24 — easypaisa digital bank has partnered with smartphone manufacturer Transsion to have its banking app pre-installed on more than five million new smartphones in Pakistan, in a move aimed at expanding access to digital financial services.
Under the partnership, the easypaisa app will be pre-installed on new smartphones sold under Transsion’s Infinix, TECNO and itel brands, giving customers access to the digital banking platform when they activate their devices.
The companies said the initiative is particularly aimed at expanding digital financial access among underserved and unbanked consumers, including people using smartphones and mobile internet for the first time.
According to figures cited by the companies, 3G and 4G device penetration in Pakistan has reached 71.6%, creating a larger potential market for app-based financial services.
The agreement was signed in Islamabad by easypaisa digital bank Chief Digital Officer Farhan Hassan and Transsion Vice President Global Partnerships Michael Wang in the presence of senior representatives from both companies.
Partnership Targets Wider Digital Banking Access
Farhan Hassan said integrating easypaisa directly into smartphones would make financial services available at an early stage of consumers’ digital journeys.
He said the partnership was intended to reduce barriers to digital banking, extend easypaisa’s reach and encourage more Pakistanis to participate in the formal financial system.
Transsion Pakistan Country Manager Muhammad Abdul Qadeer said combining the smartphone maker’s reach with access to digital financial services could make financial inclusion a more natural part of the smartphone experience.
The companies expect the collaboration to increase easypaisa app penetration, customer acquisition and engagement with formal digital financial services.
For consumers, the arrangement means the banking app will already be available on eligible new Infinix, TECNO and itel smartphones rather than requiring users to separately find and install it.
easypaisa Targets Pakistan’s Unbanked Population
easypaisa said it has more than 60 million registered users and continues to expand its digital banking ecosystem through partnerships designed to reach people who remain unbanked or underbanked.
The company said the smartphone pre-installation initiative forms part of its broader strategy to make financial products and services more accessible through digital channels.
By combining Transsion’s smartphone footprint in Pakistan with easypaisa’s banking platform, both companies aim to expand participation in formal financial services as smartphone and mobile internet adoption increases across the country.
