MARDAN, Pakistan: Commissioner Mardan Division Javed Marwat inaugurated a tree plantation campaign at Women University Mardan by planting a sapling, underscoring the importance of environmental conservation and climate action. The event brought together university officials, district administration representatives, and faculty members to promote sustainable environmental practices.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Razia Sultana, Deputy Commissioner Wasif Rehman, members of the university administration, faculty, and other officials joined the Commissioner in planting saplings as part of the campaign.
Tree Plantation Key to Addressing Climate Change
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Javed Marwat described climate change as one of the world’s most pressing challenges and said tree plantation should be treated as a national responsibility to reduce its impacts.
He noted that trees help reduce pollution, lower temperatures, conserve natural resources, and contribute to a healthier environment for future generations. He also urged students to plant at least one tree and take responsibility for its care.
Educational Institutions Have a Vital Role
The Commissioner emphasized that universities and educational institutions play a critical role in raising environmental awareness among young people and encouraging long-term sustainability.
He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government continues to prioritize environmental protection through various initiatives aimed at creating a greener province, adding that the district administration would work closely with educational institutions and other stakeholders to strengthen the plantation campaign.
Universities Sign Academic Collaboration Agreement
During the visit, Women University Mardan and Kohat University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand academic, research, and institutional cooperation.
The agreement includes plans for joint research projects, faculty and student exchange programmes, and broader academic collaboration between the two universities.
Development Projects Reviewed
Commissioner Marwat, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Wasif Rehman and other officials, also inspected under-construction academic blocks at the university.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Razia Sultana briefed the delegation on the progress of ongoing development projects, future infrastructure needs, and available facilities. Expressing satisfaction with the pace of work, the Commissioner directed the relevant authorities to complete the projects on schedule and according to approved standards to provide students with a modern, secure, and high-quality learning environment.
